About Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines has emerged to be one of the most prominent and trusted names in the sky, becoming the chosen airline for most global travellers. With an exception fleet collection and a brand built on providing exceptional customer service, this airline is a leading name in the industry. Initially, it started out with as few as 20 airlines, but over time has progressed to a whole lot more, allowing travellers to explore the world luxuriously.
At present, Singapore Airlines operates multiple flights to 62 destinations around the world, all from its popular Hub, the Changi Airport in Singapore. For travellers, one of the most distinguishing feature of this airlines is their brand symbol of the Singapore Girl. Dressed in her signature sarong kebaya, she is representative of the world-renowned Asian hospitality and service. Designed by none other than Parisian couturier Pierre Balmain in 1968, the sarong kebaya is made of the traditionally Asian batik and has become synonymous with the Singapore Girl.
History of Singapore Airlines
Before the brand came to be known as Singapore Airlines and recognised for what it is today, it had taken on several other identities. The brand first came into existence on 1 May 1947 when the Malayan Airways Limited (MAL) Airspeed Consul took off from Singapore Kallang Airport. It was the first of three flights a week to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. In 1948, the airlines added flights to Bangkok, increasing its presence.
Following widespread success, in 2017 Singapore Airlines unveiled its latest cabin products which were to be fitted to its Airbus A380 fleet starting from December, signifying an investment cost of USD850 million. The new products entered service in December on the first of five new A380 aircraft entering the fleet. Retrofit work was also said to take place on 14 existing A380 aircraft. The new Singapore Airlines A380 will be configured with 471 seats in four classes, featuring six Singapore Airlines Suites and 78 Business Class seats on the upper deck, as well as 44 Premium Economy Class seats and 343 Economy Class seats on the main deck.

Earning and redeeming KrisFlyer miles
You can earn KrisFlyer miles on most booking classes on Singapore Airlines and Silkair flights. However, the earning rates vary and some booking classes, such as G on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir, won’t earn you miles. KrisFlyer miles are awarded for travel in the Singapore Airlines Suites, First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class and in their corresponding booking classes.
Before you make a booking, please check with your travel agent, local Singapore Airlines office or the operating partner airline to find out the number of KrisFlyer miles you’ll earn on your flight.
Earning KrisFlyer miles from a partner
When you use the services of any of the partners, they’ll need to verify your transaction and membership status before crediting your miles. You’ll normally see them between two and four weeks after your flight. Or six to eight weeks after you use the services of a non-airline partner. However, if it’s been more than eight weeks and they’re still not there, please connect with customer care.
Log in and download a Claim Missing Miles form if you’ve flown or used the services of one of the partners. You can find the form under the ‘Claim missing miles’ tab, under ‘Miles’. Just:
- Log in and click on Miles, then Claim Missing Miles.
- Download the Claim Missing Miles form under Make a claim
- For Airline Partners, KrisFlyer members can also make a claim online. Simply select 'Other Airlines' and provide the details of your flight(s).
Alternatively, if you've flown on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir, or one of the partners within the last six months, simply complete the online form.
