How To Pack Efficiently For Your Upcoming Trip
Do you ever get that feeling sometimes that packing for your trip is turning out to be a far more stressful activity than traveling itself? I do. No matter how many times you’ve traveled elsewhere – for business or pleasure – there always seem to be tons of decisions to be made. Decisions such as, what to bring, what to wear and how to organise everything in one suitcase often leave us confounded, that one some days, we end up just hastily dumping everything in our luggage. Ask anyone and you’ll find out people ultimately desire to be able to pack light and avoid the hassle of paying for excess baggage or lugging around a very heavy suitcase full of unnecessary baubles. Some are successful, while others are just wired to inevitably overpack. As it turns out, packing light is a process, not a goal. We can and will be noticeably more adept at packing efficiently as we keep traveling.
This handy guide contains pro tips to help you pack light and be more efficient and practical in packing for your future trips.

Packing light starts with a lightweight suitcase. And no, it doesn’t have to be a Rimowa or a Tumi, if both are beyond your budget range. Any decent brand will do, so long as it’s lightweight. Remember how suitcases used to be so bulky and heavy that they’re already eating up on your allowable weight even before you put anything in them? Well, now you have tons of options and really, you can’t go wrong with the lightweight type. While you’re at it, try to downgrade the size of your suitcase as well – especially when traveling only for a few days – to avoid the temptation of overpacking.
Create a Checklist. This should be a lot easier to do if you’re going on a trip that you’ve planned for several weeks or months in advance. Make a list of the things you need and filter it some more by going only with the absolute necessities and leaving behind those that wound up in the list only because they’re cute or that they might come in handy. Usually, these things ‘that might come handy’ hardly ever get used at all.

Pack travel-sized toiletries. Avoid packing full bottle-sized shampoo, body wash, etc – especially if what you have at home are the professional salon size. Just transfer enough quantity into travel toiletries bottles which you can find in any travel shops or supermarkets. Besides, if you’re staying in hotels, these things are provided for anyway. Otherwise, if you run out of toiletries, you can always buy them locally.
Roll ‘em up! Certainly one of the best travel hacks ever. Rolling up your clothes instead of folding them will give you more room for other things in your suitcase. Plus, it reduces wrinkling on your clothes as well.
Learn to Layer. Wear layers and pack in layers. Your packed clothes should feature plenty of layers, which will help you get through different climates in style and comfort. If traveling during winter, wear your bulkiest item like jacket or coat on your flight so it won’t be an added weight to your luggage. Even if it gets warm in the plane, you can always stow away your extra layers in the overhead compartment. That way, you also save time from digging through your luggage for your thickest jacket once you land in subzero temperatures.
