Here’s How To Make Your Own Christmas Decorations On A Budget
It’s that time of the year again. Shopping districts are decked out in Christmas trees and turkeys are starting to fill the shelves. The only thing you hear in malls are Christmas songs. And maybe, you’d start to think about decorating your home too. How do you do it on a budget? We’re here with tips and tricks on how to decorate for Christmas without burning a hole through your pocket.
Decorating Idea #1: Make Christmas-Themed Bottles
Give your old bottles a little festive cheer!
Step 1: Remove all markings from the bottle and wrap or paint it with the paper or colour of your choice.
Step 2: Decorate the bottle with Christmas themed-stickers or draw your design on the bottle with some markers.
Step 3: Top it off with a nice little ribbon at the neck of the bottle and you’re done!
Decorating Idea #2: Fold Origami Paper into Christmas Ornaments
Want to make your own Christmas ornaments? These origami trees will give your home some personalised charm. You can find easy tutorials on Pinterest or Google it if you want. Check out origami paper on Lazada, and buy as many as it suits your decorating needs. There are different textures and designs available so choose what you feel like doing.
Decorating Idea #3: Wrap household items with gift wrapping paper
If you want to fill your tree with present boxes to make it look pretty in advance, you don’t actually have to buy a gift until you find something your gift recipient wants.
Step 1: Find a box you want to wrap up.
Step 2: Wrap the box like a present, complete with a gift ribbon.
Step 3: Place the present box under the tree and watch your family get excited over it!
Decorating Idea #4: Fill old jars with something new
Have old jars lying around? Put them to use as your new tabletop fixture that’ll look aesthetic at no cost.
Step 1: Take an old jar and clean it up.
Step 2: Place decorations such as leaves and baubles into the jar.
Step 3: Optionally, place fairy lights into your jar if you want it to glow at night!
If you don’t have any of these items, Shopee is the place to look.
Decorating Idea #5: Use Floating Candles
Floating candles always feel a little more Christmassy, and it’s easy to set up one of your own to have the natural energy in your home.
Step 1: Get a tealight candle.
Step 2: Fill a wide-mouth glass with water, leaving space for the candle.
Step 3: Place your desired decorations into the glass, but ensure they’re not taller than the candle. Have at least one heavier decoration that sinks to the bottom.
Step 4: Finally, gently put the candle in the water and light it. Voila!
Decorating Idea #6: Make your own snow
What’s Christmas without snow? In the Philippines, we may not get snow but we can make our own! You can sprinkle snow everywhere now with this easy recipe.
Step 1: Pour equal amounts of cornstarch and baking soda onto a tray or into a bowl. You can also measure if that works best for you.
Step 2: Mix the baking soda and cornstarch with your fingers.
Step 3: Add just enough water so that when you squeeze some of the mixtures in your hands, you can form a ball!
Step 4: Gently loosen any clumps until it looks like real snow.
Step 5: Sieve out your snow onto the desired object you want to decorate.
You just need a little bit of innovation to make your own decorations
Anything can become a Christmas decoration, and the only limit is what you can think of. As long as it’s from the heart, we’re sure it’ll bring joy to your family. We hope this list helped you with your Christmas decorating dilemma. Have a merry Christmas with ShopBack!
